i can't stand when people ask me to do a photoshoot for them and do all this work, but then when the ask for prices, they're all "psh that's too much!"

well, you go to downtown chicago, find a professional photographer get an estimate, and then come back and tell me that my prices are "too much". <.<

i really miss programming. i was a total nerd in my visual basic class, catching onto stuff right away and being all happy whenever i made the simplest program, haha. after 8 months of not doing it, i remember nothing.

tomorrow i'm doing a photoshoot with soy! i'm so freakin' excited. i haven't taken good photos in a while, and i'm gonna have a chance to play around with my studio lighting some more.

it's times like these i wish i drove. 'cause i'm gonna have to somehow make my studio light, umbrella, tripod, flashes and props/clothing compact enough to get on the bus without it being super heavy or hitting old people in the head when i walk past. ;_;

of course, i'll be posting the photos. :DDDDD

Wait whoa, so you actually take the pictures and then they're What? That sounds illegal though I don't know how that would apply to you as not having your own ~business~

I thought you drove...? I remember you saying something about your parents wanting you to drive to HW?

oh oops. i did phrase that kinda weird, haha.
no, i meant that people will ask me about a photoshoot and tell me what they want (i haven't done anything yet). i tell them a price, and they don't want my services anymore. :/

i was supposed to drive to HW, but for some reason, that kinda....died off. i haven't driven to school once. D: i really need to. i keep putting it off. sigh.

Ooh I see. Well, that's slightly better even though it's pretty ridiculous. I think it'd be an honor to be photographed by you :P but what do I know? How much do you charge, btw?

So I'm guessing you bus now or something?

aw thanks. :]
it depends on what someone asks for, but usually people just want some simple headshots with prints and they want some simple retouching. for that i charge 50 (which should be so much more, but i deal with students so i try to be nice with pricing).

yeah, i bus on the days that my dad doesn't give me a ride. i hate having him drive me, but he insists driving me. :/

Wow, that's amazing! $50? Like total? I remember when I got my senior pictures (ugh total ripoff and they made me do a stupid pose even though I paid for each pose...I could rant about that for hours) they made me pay $75 just to go in 15 minutes of sitting on their stupid equipment. Lame as shit. =[ I don't anticipate I'll need any pictures like...ever...:( but if I ever do I'll know who to ask ;)

Aww you're so nice. I remember when I got driven to school I was really mad at having to wait for my parents to actually come get me, not feel bad that they had to do it in the first place. :p If you drove by yourself would you have to do street parking or something? Is that why you don't want to drive?

yeah total! :P
i know. omg senior photos are unrealistically priced. like the the cheapest package the company at my school offered as $200. D:

LOL. nah i get impatient too, but then i'm like "i'm lucky they even drive me". but i do get irritated if they're late. XD

nah i don't want to drive because i'm scared of the insane people on the road. i'm just really really paranoid.

if i did drive though, my school has a parking lot. i'd just have to get there super early because the lot is small.

Wow, crazy! I felt so stupid getting them especially since they weren't like...mandatory. But I thought my mom would want them. Now no one has any idea where we put them LOL.

Yeah I don't blame you...people are pretty crazy. One time i waited at a green light 2 seconds instead of one because I was trying to get the hair out of my eyes and...I swear to God like, 5 people honked at me simultaneously and super loud. I think if you can get by without driving you should do it as long as it's obviously not a hinderance to your dad :)

Look at your competition, find out what their pricing is like, create your pricing sheet accordingly. Don't do work without a non-refundable deposit and a basic contract that's been signed. If they aren't willing to pay, it's not a loss to you, as you're better served by paying clients, even if they're statistically more rare at this point.

ah yes - a non-refundable deposit is something i had to learn about the hard way a couple of years ago. i need to make up a contract...

thanks for the advice!

how much do you charge?

usually people just want headshots, so i charge about 50 dollars, which is way cheaper than i see other photographers charge.
